2 days ago, I read an article on Forbes India regarding how people who were laid off during the pandemic started their entrepreneurial journeys in the most adverse times. That article led me to write this post where I want to discuss how our skills can be leveraged and monetised in this digital age.
One of the most important qualities an entrepreneur must have is Resilience. While the pandemic has caused a lot of challenges to most businesses around us, this has also shown us the importance of financial stability. While the world has experienced a rise in unemployment, people have started to realise that nothing in this world should be taken for granted and it is best not to put all your eggs in one basket. In the article mentioned above, there are numerous examples of people who were laid off during the lockdown in India. Rather than sleeping on the wheel and being emotionally consumed with unprecedented circumstances, they decided to rise to the occasion and take the helm to steer through the rough waters.

Starting an online venture is not as difficult as it is thought out to be. Neither do you have to be some kind of a computer whizz to do it. There are a host of existing platforms available online which may be used to start all sorts of businesses. Selling products on online marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, etc.; creating online courses on platforms like Coursera, monetizing content on YouTube, Digital marketing on social media, freelancing on various freelancing portals such as Upwork, Fiverr, etc. Based on the skills that you wish to monetize, there are plenty of options available to help you take the first step. The options are endless, the only thing stopping you is YOU!
Working on an online hustle does not require you to quit your job or go all in. Rather, it can be your side hustle or a source of passive income while you are still on your full-time job. There are plenty of examples on the internet on how to generate income while still performing all your responsibilities on your full-time job.
The digital era has empowered us to connect with the whole world with just a click of a button. This opportunity has immense business value and, ideally, the whole world can be your customer. The rise of the internet and social media has given rise to new industries and sectors such as digital marketing, content creation, etc. These are new opportunities waiting to be grabbed and which a lot of people are already doing. So, I think it’s time you start to think if you want to be naïve enough to put all your eggs in one basket!
So, it is time that you start discovering your skills, talents, interests, etc. which may end up providing you with a way to your financial independence. As I have already emphasised in my blog posts, that ideas are worth nothing without actions backing those ideas.
